R.I.P. Tim Hetherington →

A bad day for all of us who care about insightful reporting and unflinching filmmaking on the wars overseas.  Everybody who hasn’t seen Hetherington’s Oscar-nominated documentary Restrepo (he co-directed with Sebastian Junger) should drop what they are doing and watch it right now.  It offers incredible images and candid testimony from the far-flung front lines in Afghanistan.  Even more heart-wrenching given today’s sad news from Libya.

There’s an app for THAT?

From: http://www.informationweek.com/news/government/mobile/229401873

Veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) now can turn to their mobile devices for help, thanks to a new application from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DOD).  The two agencies have developed the PTSD Coach application to help veterans dealing with symptoms of PTSD. The app can link them to local sources of support and even help manage their symptoms in the moment, according to the VA.
